Teeth Whitening

Teeth are stained by the foods and drinks we consume. Smoking further stains teeth and the natural bright, white shade becomes darkened. Teeth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of bleaching process chosen.

Our dentists at Airport Dental use the Pola Whitening system to whiten your teeth. The materials used are medically graded (tested and manufactured to the same standard as prescription medicines). The structure of teeth is not changed or damaged in any way by the process, it merely makes them sparkle!

Our In Surgery/In Office

30-minute power whitening can whiten teeth by up to several shades, brightening your teeth dramatically to their natural shade. Your lips and gums are covered, and a gel is applied to your teeth. A special light is positioned over your teeth to activate the gel, which gently penetrates your  teeth, breaking up  stains and discolouration. Whiter, brighter teeth in less than an hour!

 Home Whitening

Home teeth whitening kits are also available to lighten your teeth more gradually.

A custom-made mouth tray is created, in which you put whitening gel is placed and then you wear the tray for short periods during the day. With all whitening treatment, individual results will vary and are dependent on your initial tooth colour and the nature of your tooth staining. Results are normally seen over 2-4 weeks

Teeth with a yellowish hue usually bleach well, brownish ones less so; greyish teeth may not bleach well at all. Discoloured fillings will not improve with bleaching and will show more if the surrounding tooth structure is bleached. The dentist will be able to tell if bleaching is suitable, or not, and discuss whether other options, such as veneers and crowns, for improving the appearance of the teeth are suitable.

Whitening toothpastes contain ingredients that increase the levels of superficial stain removal, if used regularly, to prevent stains gaining a foothold. However, they are unable to alter the intrinsic colour of teeth and won’t produce the results that teeth whitening will. All toothpastes contain mild abrasives, which help remove surface stains.
